'On 2nd June 2015, the Duchess of Cornwall hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate 100 years of the WI in the United Kingdom. One member from each WI was invited to attend the event and I was lucky enough to win the ballot and represent Ockford-Godalming WI. A coach was laid on and about 40 members from South West Surrey donned their best hats and departed for London on a windy, rainy day. It was certainly a day to remember. The organisation ran like clockwork and the tea was memorable. Several other members of the Royal Family also mingled with guests, gamely holding tightly on to their umbrellas!'

Sadly 'Hello Lovely Boutique' had to withdraw from this event but M & Co Godalming were able to step in at the last minute. The event was well supported by members and friends. The wonderful Jazz Choir also gave an entertaining performance followed by an amazing full afternoon tea. Pictured here is model Dee McNamara (right) and below, the Choir and a selection of cakes for tea

At our March meeting Jane Muddle gave such an interesting talk about her ethically based business selling hats and bags sourced from Madagascar. She also talked about the island bringing it vividly to life.
These colourful hand woven raffia goods were beautifully made in bright colours and using 'Fairtrade' principles. Our members were able to treat themselves from a wide choice of sun hats and beach bags. Pictured here is Niki Hill trying the hat for size!
