Recently we held a very successful Mosaic workshop. These bowls above were some of the designs created. The owls look amazing. A very enjoyable and creative afternoon was had by all!
We had a wonderful cookery demonstration by Jennny from "Wild Garlic" at our recent meeting. The Monkey bread, a sharing loaf, was delicious and the rhubarb gin was not only a beautiful colour but slipped down a treat! It was great fun and we are keen to try out some of Jenny's recipies.
'Wild Garlic' is a Community Cookery School based in Witley Surrey.
We had our 74th Birthday lunch party recently. It was a delicious salad and quiche meal, with a choice of puddings. We had a very interesting talk from Suzette Jones about ASD & ADHD in girls which is the current WI Resolution. This was followed by a quiz and a fascinating talk from one of our members, Beryl about her time training in London as a florist. We had our birthday cake, kindly made by Wendy and raised our glasses in a toast to us!
Birthday Party - Raising our Glasses!
We had our first "proper" outing recently visiting Salisbury Cathedral for their flower festival. Unfortunately the heavens opened (much needed rain for the gardens) but the flowers in this beautiful place were bright so it seemed more like a summer day. It was so interesting and full of wonderful colours. The summer garden display with the bee skepts was particularly fun.
(Right) The Coronation Robe all made from flowers and grasses.
Following our June meeting hearing about Magnetic Therapy by Alan Cook, we had a delicious tea. Several people asked for the recipe for the lovely savoury scones made by Dee. She is happy to say the recipe can be found in 'The W.I Life' magazine for April on page 52.
Some of our members relaxed in the shade while others checked out the interesting garden plants and found inspiration.
Ash Class in Year 3 made these beautiful vegetable animals while Years 1 and 2 painted pebble minibeasts which are displayed above (on the right). They made a lovely display at our Produce Show.
The lovely work displayed at our recent 'Produce and Craft Show' (above) is by St Mark & All Saints School. Our members were very interested to see the craft work and the written pieces by the school children. The children visited the show so were able to see exhibits by members of the WI. A great way for the local community to mix.
