Monica Bowen won the cup for the highest number of points at the Flower and Produce Show.  The photograph shows Monica receiving her cup from the Federation Chairman.

2015

'On 2nd June 2015, the Duchess of Cornwall hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate 100 years of the WI in the United Kingdom. One member from each WI was invited to attend the event and I was lucky enough to win the ballot and represent Ockford-Godalming WI.  A coach was laid on and about 40 members from South West Surrey donned their best hats and departed for London on a windy, rainy day. It was certainly a day to remember. The organisation ran like clockwork and the tea was memorable. Several other members of the Royal Family also mingled with guests, gamely holding tightly on to their umbrellas!'

Chinthurst WI Group Fashion Show at the Wilfrid Noyce Centre on the 14th March 2020

Sadly 'Hello Lovely Boutique' had to withdraw from this event but M & Co Godalming were able to step in at the last minute.  The event was well supported by members and friends.  The wonderful Jazz Choir also gave an entertaining performance followed by an amazing full afternoon tea.   Pictured here is model Dee McNamara (right) and below, the Choir and a selection of cakes for tea

Madajazz

At our March meeting Jane Muddle gave such an interesting talk about her ethically based business selling hats and bags sourced from Madagascar. She also talked about the island bringing it vividly to life.

These colourful hand woven raffia goods were beautifully made in bright colours and using 'Fairtrade' principles.  Our members were able to treat themselves from a wide choice of sun hats and beach bags. Pictured here is Niki Hill trying the hat for size!

2020

We had our first W.I meeting this week, sitting under the Old Oak Tree!  Members came with their own camp chairs, a mug and cakes.  Later we were entertained by the duo "Kissing Frogs" (Pictured) - from Folk to Rock songs which was great fun.

Their telephone number is

Our "Poppy  Project" is begining to  take shape (see above) with the crochet and felt poppies being sewn onto a poppy background by some of our "Stitch & Chat" team.  More poppies are still needed before this project is complete, so keep making!

Poppy Fall

The finished "Poppy Fall" is displayed from the pulpit at St Peter & St Paul C of E in Godalming.  It was created by our WI members making all the individual poppies.  It was ready for Remembrance Sunday on 8th November and is now displayed in St Mark's Church, Ockford  Ridge,

Ockford-Godalming WI, with members of the Townswoman Guild laid poppy wreaths at the Godalming War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday 8th November.  The crochet poppy wreath was made by Maggie Maile.

The Scrabble Club meeting outside in the sunshine!

Following our very interesting talk and slide show on "Behind the scenes of RHS Chelsea Flower Show" members enjoyed seeing spring flowers arranged in a tea cup.  Here are some of the arrangements beautifully arranged by members.  To see who has arranged the flowers below, hover your mouse over each picture.

A lovely lunch was included in our outing to Selborne house and gardens recently.  The food was delicious. The outing was very successful, 10 of us were able to go.

Gillian organised a very successful fund raising fair recently in aid of  'Ovarian Cancer Trust'.  She raised over £500 which was an amazing effort.  The cakes and cream teas were very popular and delicious.  Colin put on an interesting display of his models of old Godalming.  There was a raffle with some great prizes as well as various stalls including books.  This wonderful effort was very well supported by our WI ladies.

A few photographs of our beautiful "Rainbow Picnic" held on Wednesday in the Phillips Memorial Cloisters.  We were so lucky with the weather, the lily pond and surrounding flower beds were full of colour. We can recommend a visit for anyone wanting a pleasant walk by the river.  We had a very happy occasion which was well attended by members.

Monica received a congratulations card from our President on the occasion of her Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

Photographs from our Rainbow Picnic held on the 4th August 2021 in bright sunshine!

Some of the beautiful paintings by Margaret Atkins who sadly died recently.

Wendy delivering a beautiful arrangement to  Alan and Monica on the occasion of their Diamond wedding anniversary.

A Sunday afternoon cream tea, at Waverley Abbey House on a bank holiday weekend.  16 of our members were able to visit this lovely house and grounds.

Our Produce & Handicraft Show was a great success!  There were some beautiful handicraft entries.  We had such a good selection of flower arrangements entered this year and they were so colourful.  It was very interesting looking at the different interpretations by our talented flower arrangers.  The cookery section was very competitive. (perhaps people have been watching the "Bake Off" and getting inspired!) The judge had a very difficult task judging this section as well as the jams and preserves too.  Many congratulations to all our members who took the time and effort to enter this our first show since Covid!

We could have done with more entries for the art and photography section so perhaps members can start planning now for next year!  Do look at the pictures below which show some of our entries.

Gillian receiving her cup from the Mayor of Waverley.  Well done Gillian for arranging a great show this year.  It was special having our local school taking part too.  The children were fascinated to see their work displayed  and to view the WI members entries.  (See the photos below)

Our local school, St Mark & All Saints Church of England School put on this lovely dislay of their work. Pictured above,  Decorated pebbles on the left and a beautiful rainbow made of recycled materials on the right.  Below are displays of creative writing about "Lockdown", which were very interesting but also very poignant to read.

Here are some of the beautiful floral arrangements produced by the talented ladies of our WI.  The classes were

1) "Rainbow"

2) A Gilbert & Sullivan Operetta

4)A Modern exhibit

5) An arrangement with a fan.

The standard was very high, as you can see from this small selection pictured left.   The rainbow arrangements were extremely colourful.

Well done to everyone who took part.
